Governors
Welcome to our Governors’ section.
Chair of Governors: Mr Harsimran Singh
The DfE states that the governing board has three roles:
- A strategic role focuses on the aims and standards of the school, usually embodied in the development plan, raising the standards of achievement of the school, and setting and reviewing the policies which form the broad framework through which the school operates.
- A critical friend role involves monitoring and evaluating how the school is progressing and is based on a trusting relationship between the head teacher, staff and governors.
- An accountability role involves accounting for the school’s performance and being able to explain decisions and actions to those with a legitimate interest.
Here are a few reasons why you might consider becoming a school Governor at Eastbury Farm
Under its leadership, you will be supporting a well-run, high-achieving school with settled staff and committed pupils.
If you decide to join the Governing Board, you will be part of a team bringing a range of expertise and diversity in skills and experience that challenges and supports the school's leadership in all aspects of strategic direction and the achievement of continuous improvement.
A Governor does not simply attend meetings, review policies, make class visits and vote on decisions. More specific and detailed roles are assigned to link governors, for example, for finance, safeguarding, health and safety, plus curriculum topics. Through these contributions you will have the satisfaction of knowing you can make a real difference to the development of children and staff.
Vacancies
As of September 2025 we have three vacancies on our board. To compliment the skill set of our current governors we are looking for potential governors who could bring an external view, ideally with an education background. We would encourage any interested potential governor to get in touch with our Chair, who would be happy to share more about the role and our school. Please contact in the first instance via admin@eastburyfarm.herts.sch.uk
Statement of Behaviour Principles
The Governing Board have established a set of behaviour principles in order to guide the headteacher in determining measures to promote good behaviour and discipline amongst our pupils.
Our Behaviour Principles
Our behaviour principles reflect our school values which are summarised through our mission statement ‘Nurturing and Developing our Children for the Future’. Our vision that ‘children leave Eastbury Farm having been inspired to become confident, successful learners, ready to explore their future as resilient and responsible individuals' underpins these principles.
Eastbury Farm embraces the diversity of our community and we believe that everyone should be free from discrimination, harassment and victimisation of any sort. We believe in the concept of equity, whereby every child receives the individualised support they need to succeed.
Everyone has the right to feel safe all the time.
Bullying or harassment of any description is unacceptable, even if it occurs outside normal school hours.
Every pupil should be educated in an environment where they feel valued, listened to and respected.
Children should be encouraged to be accountable for their actions and the potential impact on themselves and others.
Consequences should enable a pupil to reflect on, and learn from a situation and to make reparation wherever possible.
Children should be supported to build self-discipline, empathy and emotional resilience through the development of strong self-regulation systems.
Adults in school should model, maintain, encourage and promote positive behaviour.
High expectations for positive behaviour and attitudes towards learning provide the foundations for our children to become responsible and resilient.
The school works in partnership with parents/carers to develop and promote valued behaviours, seeking advice from appropriate outside agencies wherever necessary.
Suspension and permanent exclusion from school is a last resort. Any suspension or exclusion should be issued in accordance with guidance from the Local Authority.
